I made this recipe box for my dad as a Christmas gift. He loves to cook and bake and has a whole library of recipe books. I thought he could compile his favorites into this special little recipe box made just for him!
First, I removed the hardware and painted the box. Then I chose papers that were masculine and yet would coordinate with their Kitchen. I decoupaged them onto the box. I sprayed the box with a clear acrylic sealer for protection against moisture.
I created a little tag to affix onto the front. I typed up what I wanted to say and printed it onto matching paper. I decoupaged it onto a chipboard cutout, distressed it, made holes for brads, sprayed it with acrylic sealer then glued it onto the front of the box.
I just love to use old skeleton keys in my work whenever possible. I drilled holes into the lid and used wire to strap on the key. The key originally had a copper finish, so I used StazOn ink to give it a distressed look.
I didn't like the look of the original clasp the box had so I used an antique brass handle I picked up at the craft store.
My dad loved his recipe box and told me he cleared a spot for it in the kitchen- center front on his recipe book rack.
My dad is an excellent baker and cook and all his delicious dishes really are made with ..... The Taste of Love!
